There’s a difference between vigilance and paranoia…


A paranoid person believes that danger will befall them specifically, at any place and at any time. As such they are incapable of preparing for the assumed attack as the options are too many and the mind cannot conceive of a defense for all.


A vigilant person is aware of all possible threats around them, taking into account space, time and people involved. With this more focused approach, they construct a strategy to stay safe from what they perceive around them and understand what options are available if things take a negative turn.
